Media in Figures. 69% of Media in the Balkans Monetized From New Revenue Streams

Interesting statistics extracted from cool studies and research projects about media and journalism

Some 69% of all the media in a development program run by Thomson Foundation in the Balkans have monetized from newly introduced revenue streams, according to a presentation material from the foundation. As media across the world are still feeling the pinch of the string of economic crises experienced during the past more than a decade, that is an encouraging figure.

In one case featured by the foundation, Vidi Vaka, a digital media organization in North Macedonia, established a storytelling studio that produces stories for private companies. The unit, set up as part of a support program in the Balkans run by Thomson Foundation, is now profitable.

“Going forward our task […] is to help these media innovators take their skills and export them to media businesses large and small in central and eastern Europe and beyond,” said David Quin, director in charge of development at the Thomson Foundation.
