The highest number of state-controlled media outlets in the world are in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, 94 outlets in each. Together, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia account for over 53% of all state-controlled media in the world, defined in a 151-country study by the Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) as media financially, organizationally and editorially controlled by the government.
